4 Common Mistakes To Avoid While Wearing Line-M-Up™

Line-M-Up™ patients of all ages will make many different mistakes, and the following are four all-too-common mistakes that you should avoid!

invisible aligners and Line-M-Up are helping patients

There are many different reasons why our patented Line-M-Up™ invisible aligner technology has become very sought-after by countless orthodontic patients. From being able to temporarily take out your aligner trays for eating and drinking to the true invisible nature of the appliances, it’s safe to say that Line-M-Up™ solves a lot of different problems that patients tend to have with traditional braces.

However, there are still many unique responsibilities and daily habits that Line-M-Up™ patients will need to keep in mind in order to ensure their very best treatment results. Mistakes simply happen all the time no matter what type of orthodontic treatment you or your child are going through, and the JK Orthodontics team is here to help you better understand the common mistakes we come across and how to avoid them altogether!

Common Mistakes Made By Line-M-Up™ Patients

The following are four of the most common mistakes that Line-M-Up™ patients are susceptible to:

1. Drinking Or Eating With Aligner Trays In

Most people simply aren’t used to having something like an orthodontic appliance in their mouths prior to taking a sip of a tasty beverage or digging into a snack/meal. But when you’re wearing Line-M-Up™ aligners, you’ll have to make a habit out of removing your trays before sipping any drinks other than cold water. Even hot water or tea can potentially cause issues because of the thin nature of the aligners being prone to warping.

One of the great benefits of invisible aligners is that patients won’t have to go through food restrictions like traditional braces patients, but you’ll defeat the purpose of this benefit if you forget to remove your trays prior to eating!

2. Forgetting To Brush After Each Meal

Line-M-Up™ patients must also be very diligent about brushing their trays and teeth before putting their trays back in their mouth after eating/drinking. This of course can be a bit inconvenient due to our busy lifestyles, but it’s absolutely critical to ensure that bacteria isn’t getting trapped between your trays and your teeth.

Invisible aligners are great when it comes to eliminating the risks of food getting stuck in hard to reach areas like with traditional braces, but they do pose hygiene issues when they aren’t thoroughly cleaned on a daily basis.

The best way to prevent these potential problems is to simply brush after every meal, and that may mean keeping a dental kit on you so you can brush after your lunch!

3. Leaving Your Aligners On A Napkin

Eating out at restaurants is a big part of everyone’s lives, because it’s something we all love to do. The problem for Line-M-Up™ patients when they eat out is that they may potentially forget about their trays when placing them on a napkin. Some aligners actually end up getting accidentally thrown out by restaurant workers prior to patients even realizing what has happened!

Placing your valuable aligner trays on a restaurant napkin will put you at a higher risk of them accidentally being tossed, and patients also accidentally throw out their own aligner trays as well.

The best way to avoid this type of problem is to keep your aligner case on you each day so that you’ll have a safe place to put your aligners when it’s time to eat.

4. Not Wearing Your Aligners Long Enough

Line-M-Up™ treatment is an interesting orthodontic treatment as compared to traditional braces because the overall efficiency of the treatment will largely depend upon the patient’s daily habits. This is mainly oriented around how long a patient wears their aligner trays on a daily basis, and the general rule is that you should wear your aligners for at least 22 hours each day.

This may seem like a lot, but the key thing to keep in mind is that you should always put your aligners back in immediately after you’re done eating or brushing. The same goes for sporting competitions if you decided to remove them for whatever reasoning.

And beyond daily usage necessities, patients must also ensure that they’re wearing the correct aligner trays for the specified amount of time that Dr. Karpac instructs you to. When a Line-M-Up™ patient moves to the next set of aligners too soon, it actually has a detrimental impact on the treatment’s overall speed!
