Answering 5 Less Common Questions About Line-M-Up™ Invisible Aligners

Line-M-Up™ is our patented invisible aligner system, and below we’ll be detailing answers to not-so-common questions we receive about it!

invisible aligners and Line-M-Up are helping patients

Invisible aligners have become very popular in recent years, and JK Orthodontics just so happens to provide our very own invisible aligner technology called Line-M-Up™.

Dr. Karpac and our entire staff receive many different questions about Line-M-Up™ in terms of whether or not it’s the right type of treatment on a patient-by-patient basis, so what we’ve done within this blog is respond to some of the less common questions we receive about Line-M-Up™ that you may not necessarily be able to find through simple Google searches.

We’re always here for you when it comes to making the best decisions about your orthodontic treatment, and we understand how important it is for you to do your own research while formulating your best options. So below are some questions oriented around Line-M-Up™ that’ll help you better know if it’s the right option for you or your loved one!

1. How Exactly Should Line-M-Up™ Trays Be Removed?

The most basic method of removing invisible aligner trays is to grab the back edge of the aligner tray using a fingernail in order to slip it off as easily as possible. One thing that Line-M-Up™ patients need to keep in mind is that they should always wash their hands thoroughly before attempting to remove their trays.

It’s also safe to say that not everyone has fingernails that are long enough to easily remove an aligner tray, and this is why you’ll also be provided a product called an Outie tool that will assist you when it comes to removing your trays.

Line-M-Up™ patients also need to remain vigilant about where they place their aligner trays once they’re outside of their mouth, which is why we generally recommend that you keep an aligner case with you on a daily basis so you can be certain that you’re protecting your trays as much as possible.

2. If My Aligner Tray Has An Irritating Edge, Can I Fix It On My Own?

Every Line-M-Up™ aligner tray is completely customized for a patient’s mouth, so we can guarantee comfortable fits; however, there are some rare instances in which an uneven or thin edge leads to gum irritation.

Although this may seem like a simple DIY fix, we provide you with a small fingernail file with sandpaper to file a rough edge. It’s possible that the tray’s capacity to initiate its role in the treatment process can be altered by slight changes in edges and shape, which can possibly throw a patient’s treatment timeline off. So, we don’t want to be cutting any aligners with your own scissors. Leave that up to JK Orthodontics, and our team will ensure that everything is corrected to perfection!

3. Will Line-M-Up™ Change How I Talk?

It’s true that Line-M-Up™ patients may experience slight differences in how they speak for the first few days of treatment, but the good news is that these changes in speech are very short-lived. Your tongue will quickly adapt to having aligner trays in your mouth, so you don’t need to worry about any minor lisp that develops during those first couple of days.

One tip we have for helping your tongue adjust faster is to read aloud with your trays in your mouth during your first week of treatment, and singing can also be a great strategy as well!

4. Can I Drink Coffee Or Tea When Wearing Line-M-Up™ Trays?

It’s understandable how a lot of people are concerned about their daily cup of tea or coffee when initiating Line-M-Up™ treatment, and this is a common question that we receive from our many adult patients. But the truth is that you’re always going to need to take your trays out whenever you’re eating or drinking anything but unflavored water.

It’s of course possible to drink tea or coffee with your trays still in your mouth, but it’s not recommended due to the possibilities of staining. It’s also important to note that many beverages will be high in sugar content, which can get trapped in between your teeth more securely while wearing aligner trays. This can increase a patient’s chances of cavities and weakened gums.

That’s why it’s always important to take a few seconds and remove your trays whenever you’re beginning any snack, beverage or meal. And if you just so happen to not have your aligner case on you, put your trays on a napkin or paper towel so they can avoid any dirty surfaces.

5. Can I Still Kiss With Invisible Aligners On?

Yes, you can still kiss your loved ones while wearing aligner trays with no problems! Although this isn’t most people’s top concern while preparing for orthodontic treatment, it still is something that many people consider during their initial consultations.

When it comes to kissing, you or your loved one will more than likely not feel any difference at all due to aligner trays. Line-M-Up™ trays lay completely flat against your teeth, so they don’t have any effect on your lips when it comes to kissing!
