FAQs About Braces To Ask Dr. Karpac During Your Consultation Appointment

Your braces consultation appointment with Dr. Karpac is an important time to ask any questions that you have!

making braces treatment or Line-M-Up fit within your family's budget at JK Orthodontics

Around half of American kids wear braces during their childhood or teenage years, and millions of adults are also choosing braces treatment every single year as well.

There’s no denying the popularity of braces and invisible aligners like Line-M-Up™ in central Ohio. Dr. Karpac is one of the leading orthodontists throughout the entire Columbus metro area when it comes to comprehensive, affordable orthodontic treatment.

If you’re a new patient with us, your first step toward a beautiful new smile will be to come meet us at our Dublin office for a consultation appointment. This is an important time to ask Dr. Karpac any questions that you may have, and below we’ll be answering some frequently asked questions (FAQs) that we get from our new patients!

1. What Are The Health Benefits Associated With Braces?

Your dentist may have recommended that you or your child receive orthodontic treatment to straighten crooked teeth, eliminate gaps, and improve various aesthetic concerns.

But it’s also important to remember that orthodontic treatment helps people address many different oral health issues, including:

  • Gingivitis
  • Bone erosion
  • Oral hygiene issues
  • Digestive problems
  • Tooth decay
  • Speech impediments
  • And much more!

2. How Long Will My Braces Treatment Last?

This is a very common question that we receive during initial consultation appointments, and it’s important to remember that everyone’s orthodontic treatment timeline will ultimately depend upon unique circumstances.

So although it’s hard to tell just how long your braces treatment will take, we can estimate that your treatment will last around 1-2 years. This is always a really good question to ask Dr. Karpac during your consultation appointment because he’ll have a more thorough estimate of your treatment timeline after thoroughly assessing your teeth and specific needs.

3. Does Getting Braces Hurt?

Braces patients typically experience slight discomfort during the first few days of their treatment, and this is simply because your teeth and gums will begin adjusting to the brackets and wires.

So even though you might feel a little bit of pain at first, it’s important to remember that this discomfort will quickly fade as you get used to your braces.

4. How Will Braces Impact My Appearance?

Braces will impact your appearance both during and after your treatment process has finished.

During your treatment, braces are typically noticeable—unless you choose our clear braces that are made of a ceramic material that blends well with your smile. And if you choose invisible aligners, it’ll be hard for anyone to tell that you’re going through orthodontic treatment.

After your treatment has been finalized, your braces will beautifully transform your smile by perfectly straightening your teeth, aligning your jaws, and eliminating any gaps. And what’s even better is that you’ll be able to enjoy your new smile forever when you use your retainer on a regular basis!

5. Can Everyone Get Line-M-Up™ Invisible Aligners?

The type of orthodontic treatment that you’ll receive will often depend upon the specific adjustments that you need.

So although Line-M-Up™ is a great option for some people, it’s not a viable option when a patient has several alignment issues. In these instances, braces will be your best treatment option.

6. What Should Braces Patients Do To Maintain Their Oral Hygiene?

It’s no secret that braces can sometimes make maintaining oral hygiene trickier. That’s why it’s crucial for braces patients to floss and brush regularly—especially when food gets trapped within brackets and wires.

Braces patients should always plan ahead to spend extra flossing time, and you also can’t forget about your regular dental checkup appointments during your treatment as well.

Another essential oral health tip for braces patients is to use mouthwash daily to prevent plaque buildup.

7. What Food Should I Avoid Eating While Wearing Braces?

Although braces patients typically can enjoy a wide variety of food options, some sticky and hard foods should be avoided throughout the treatment process.

Some of the food items that braces patients should avoid include:

  • Nuts
  • Chips
  • Hard/Sticky candies
  • Bagels
  • Corn on the cob
  • Pretzels
  • Popcorn
  • Raw veggies
  • Gum
  • Hard taco shells

8. Does Dental Insurance Cover Braces Treatment?

A lot of dental insurance plans will at least cover part of the cost of braces treatment for children and teenagers, and there are some plans that’ll cover adult braces treatment as well.

It’s important to reach out to your insurance provider while you’re preparing for your consultation appointment, and we’ll always support you through our financing options to help you cover any remaining costs and ensure that your treatment falls within your personal budget.
