What To Expect During Your Initial Orthodontic Consultation Appointment

Your consultation appointment is an important time to get answers from Dr. Karpac and the JK Ortho team!

James Karpac Orthodontics

Spring is one of the most popular times of year for new patients to begin their orthodontic journey, and our braces and Line-M-Up™ options offer a wide array of benefits for all of our patients. We love seeing the confidence boosts and oral hygiene improvements that our services provide, and the very first step toward your new smile is an initial consultation appointment with Dr. Karpac.

It’s normal to be confused about what happens during these consultations, as well as how you can prepare yourself. This is why we’ve developed this article oriented around what you can expect during your initial consultation appointment, so check out the below sections to learn more about what happens when you first meet the JK Orthodontics team!

1. Meeting Our Team

When you come into our office for the first time, you’ll be introduced to our entire team. This includes our receptionists, clinical assistants and Dr. Karpac.

We’re a tight-knit team that’s worked together for many years, and we like to make sure that all of our new patients feel like they’re becoming a part of our family when they meet us!

2. Completing Patient Forms

Although we have new patient forms available through our website, it’s still very important that you fill out some initial patient forms during your initial consultation appointment as well.

These forms give us a better understanding of some crucial information, including your oral health history, your dental insurance information, any allergies that you might have, and your treatment preferences. This written reference will be something that we come back to during your treatment journey, and it’s an important part of your patient records.

And what’s great is that you don’t necessarily have to worry about these complex forms when you show up for your consultation, because you can start filling your form out by clicking on the above link!

3. Oral Exams

The good news is that you don’t have to study for this type of exam! Once you’ve filled out your paperwork and our team is ready for you, we’ll conduct a series of oral assessments to thoroughly determine the unique development and growth patterns of your teeth.

This will include digital photos of your teeth, as well as a few X-ray images. These pictures will give us a clear depiction of your current jaw and teeth alignment, and it’ll also provide us valuable data about the current state of your gums.

This is an essential part of your consultation appointment, because Dr. Karpac will use these X-ray and digital images to help you create a personalized treatment plan that works best for you. And in general, orthodontic consults wouldn’t be successful without these images—which is why working with renowned specialists is always a better option as compared to risky, mail-order aligners!

4. Discussing Your Treatment Plan

Dr. Karpac will review your X-rays and digital images prior to meeting with you in a private consultation room. While you’re in this room, he’ll discuss the following topics with you:

  • Your specific areas of orthodontic concern
  • Similar past cases to yours (with before/after pictures)
  • Financing and insurance options

At this point of your consultation appointment, you’ll have the opportunity to ask Dr. Karpac whatever questions you have. We’ll discuss some common orthodontic consultation FAQs below!

Orthodontic Consultation FAQs

We understand how you’ll likely have some questions on your mind when you first come to meet us, and here are answers to some of the most common questions that we receive from our new patients:

Can I get my braces put on during my initial consultation appointment?

Yes, if you want to! We’ll always value your time, and we understand how excited you are to get the ball rolling on your treatment journey. If you feel ready to get started at the end of your consultation with Dr. Karpac, we’ll be more than happy to move you forward!

However, it’s important to note that Line-M-Up™ patients don’t have the same type of luxury. This is because your invisible aligner trays are specifically made to fit your unique smile, so this takes some more time. But we can assure you that your initial aligner trays will show up quickly, and that your treatment’s end results are always worth it!

Can adults get orthodontic treatment?

Absolutely! In fact, Dr. Karpac treats patients of all ages. There’s absolutely no age limit for orthodontic treatment, and about 25% of all orthodontic patients in the United States are adults.

You can fill out our new adult patient form here to get your consult jumpstarted today!

What’s the best age for my child to meet Dr. Karpac?

This is a great question. Dr. Karpac follows the American Association of Orthodontics for this one, which means your child should come see us for their initial consultation appointment around seven years old.

This doesn’t mean that your child will start their treatment at this age, but it’ll give our team a huge advantage when it comes to determining the right time that they should start their treatment.

Are consultation appointments free?

Yes, your initial consultation appointment with Dr. Karpac is 100% free of charge. We firmly believe that everyone deserves affordable orthodontic treatment, which is why you’ll never have to pay a nickel for your consult.
